Fractured Tales

9" x 12" Watercolor on 140lb. Canson Cold Press
Another "color patching" painting using Frank Webb's neat technique. The ability for the color patches to fuse edges without merging too much is accomplished on damp, not fully wet paper. After sponging clean water on both the front and back of the paper's surface, a soft towel is rolled and used to squeeze excess water out. It is much like rolling out a pie crust or cookie dough. After this, patches of color can be applied and butted up to each other. Because the paper is damp (but not soaking wet), the edges merge slightly. A really neat effect. It does take practice to get it down, though. Posted by Picasa
