Fractured Tales

9" x 12" Watercolor on 140lb. Canson Cold Press
Another "color patching" painting using Frank Webb's neat technique. The ability for the color patches to fuse edges without merging too much is accomplished on damp, not fully wet paper. After sponging clean water on both the front and back of the paper's surface, a soft towel is rolled and used to squeeze excess water out. It is much like rolling out a pie crust or cookie dough. After this, patches of color can be applied and butted up to each other. Because the paper is damp (but not soaking wet), the edges merge slightly. A really neat effect. It does take practice to get it down, though. Posted by Picasa

Scrubs

9" x 12" Watercolor on Canson 140lb.
A scrubby, shrubby desert scene. This one was fun to paint and just flowed in about 20 minutes. I love it when designs and shapes just seem to flow from the brush. It feels like sheer magic!Posted by Picasa

In Dry Dock

9" x 12" watercolor on 140lb. Arches hot press
A made-up harbor scene. Patch against patch sky is a wonderful technique I've learned by following Frank Webb's books and videos.Posted by Picasa
